Ingredients
- 1 large onion chopped
- 6-8 lb Pork Shoulder
- Mustard (regular or Dijon is fine)
- 1 cup of BBQ sauce ( Mike's BBQ Rub Original or Mango BBQ Sauce )
- 1 Tbsp Liquid smoke (optional)
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 cup chicken broth
- Mike’s BBQ Rub Original Dry rub
This recipe is super easy to do! Simply place meat in the oven at 250-275 degrees for 8-10 hours or in a crock pot on low for 8-10 hours. Now depending the size of your crock pot, you may have to cut the piece of pork in half which is totally fine.
Here are the steps for this recipe.
1. Apply mustard to pork shoulder and then apply Mike’s BBQ Rub to the meat. The mustard isn’t for flavor but more so the rub really sinks into the meat! (Leave overnight in fridge for maximum flavor)
2. Chop 1 large onion and place pork shoulder on top of onions fat side up.
3. Combine BBQ sauce, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, chicken broth and pour over the pork shoulder and place in oven or crock pot.
4. The pulled pork will be ready between the 8-10 hour mark or once the internal temperature reaches 200-205 F. At the half way mark or whenever the pork shoulder reaches an internal temperature of 160-170 F, that's when you want to cover it with aluminum foil for the remaining cook time. When its start to reach that 8 hour mark, check the doneness with a probe to the middle of the meat and check the internal temperature. If the probe reads 200-205F then that means its time to remove it from either the oven or slow cooker and cover it with aluminum foil for at least 45 minutes to an hour. If you shred it immediately once its comes out, the pork will get dry very quickly! If you shred it right away, It may taste good but trust me, the pork will dry up quickly which is why it needs to rest! I know it’s hard to resist cause the house is probably smelling amazing but… let the meat rest!
5. Once meat is rested you can start shredding with a fork. There will be a ton of juices from the pork but this is all additional flavor! Once you shred all the meat, my next step is basting the meat with its natural juices and with some Mike's BBQ Rub Sauce! #lasauuuce
6. You can either have it in a sandwich or in tacos or straight out of the bowl with a fork!
